“Very few” differences may be an understatement. Though the K55 has taken over from the K50 in terms of being newer, it has no visible or discernible differences.

Whether there are any differences internally or in terms of how the coffee is brewed, only Keurig know, but to the average consumer there is no difference.

The Keurig K50 and K55 are both among the older products in their range, they are a part of the Keurig 1.0 generation.

Though 2.0 may have more features, the 1.0 has more compatibility in terms of other pods and coffee brands when brewing your coffee.

Keurig K50 and K55 Reviews

We weren’t kidding when we said there were no differences. Ultimately, the decision you will likely make regarding which one of these to buy (if you have narrowed it down to being between the two) will likely come down to cost.

Keurig K-Classic Coffee Maker, Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Brewer, 6 To 10 Oz. Brew Sizes, Black

The K50 and it’s sibling the K55 are definitely decent methods of brewing your daily coffee.

If you don’t mind having a button control and slightly more basic features, and don’t want to brew large amounts of coffee in one go then this is certainly an option.

The added benefit of being compatible with other coffee pods not made by the company is another tick in the box.

Though the K50 doesn’t come with a water filter as standard, you can buy one direct from Keurig which is very easily installed and will help to give your coffee machine a longer life as well as brewing with better quality water.

For your basic 6 Oz, 8 Oz or 10 Oz coffee, this will do a fine job, and can brew a cup in under one minute.

As part of the 1.0 generation you also have the benefit of being able to use off-brand coffee pods which can be cheaper and also give more in the way of options.

PROS

  • Fairly sizeable 48 Oz reservoir.
  • Easy button controls.
  • Automatically turns off when not in use.
  • Can brew a coffee in just 60 seconds after turning off.
  • Compatible with unbranded K-Cup pods.

CONS

  • Can only brew up to 10 Oz.
  • Water filter must be bought separately.

Keurig K50 vs K55 – difference between keurig k50 and k55

If you are looking for a model with similar features and at a similar size, but a little more modern, the Keurig K-Select is a great option.

Also made by Keurig, this is a similar size in terms of its water capacity, but it comes with a filter and has some extra features such as strength control.

Though a lot of models in the 2.0 range do not allow you to use ‘off-brand’ pods, the K-Select has gone back to allowing any sort of pod to be used, so this is one less concern.

It is definitely more modern and something of an upgrade should you be looking for some extra features on top of your K50 or K55. You also might be interested in our comparison of the K45 and the k55 models.

Conclusion

For affordability as well as simplicity, the K50 or K55 might fit the bill. It doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of some of the other products in the range.

However, if you will only be using it for brewing one cup at a time and are looking to use unbranded pods then the K50 shouldn’t be ruled out, it is good for those with basic demands from their coffee machine.

It isn’t the newest model out there, but will still work fine and the newer K55 is still in production, meaning high street and online stores may well still sell you a new one.

The bottom line? These are the same coffee machine just made a small period of time apart. The K55 may have some internal improvements, but none which can be seen or understood for the general consumer!

Either one will make a fine starter or basic Keurig.
