Prevention for Protection: 5 Reasons You’ll Want to Have Your Roof Inspected

Why does your home feel so safe, so warm, so protective from the outside world? Your home is only as safe and secure as the roof is dependable.

Maybe you haven’t considered having a roofer come and inspect it lately, but that’s only because hey, it seems to be working.

Roofing

But just because your roof seems to be okay doesn’t mean it’s doing its best job. In reality, there are many reasons to have your roof inspected regularly, and here are just a few.

Keeping the Warranty Active

If your roof is relatively new or has even been in place for a few decades, it might still be under warranty. Avoid having to absorb the cost of any damage by holding up your end of the bargain.

Many warranties are voided by improper maintenance and inattention on the part of the homeowner, so get that inspection.

Prevention

Your visual inspection isn’t good enough. By the time your roof has visible damage, it’s too late, and repair will probably be exorbitant. Prevent water damage, caving, and compromised structure by having a roofer check things out.

This way, you can avoid having it progress into a situation where suddenly, everything in your attic is destroyed. You’ll save money by addressing issues before they become large-scale emergencies.

Keeping an Eye on Gutters

A roof isn’t just a hard surface with some shingles or tile. The life of your roof is extended exponentially with a good drainage system that prevents wear and rot. This typically includes gutters and flashing.

Flashing will keep water from collecting on your roof, and gutters will carry water away. All in all, these components extend the life of your roof by decades, and a roof inspector will notice if anything’s gone wrong during their assessment of your home. There’s no surer way to know whether or not it’s time to replace or repair those gutters than having a professional tell you.

Cleaning

Did you know that your roof may need professional cleaning? The growth of algae and moss can contribute to rotting and cut your roof’s life in half. This kind of maintenance is precisely what needs to be done to keep that warranty in place.

On top of that, you may have noticed that some creatures, including birds and squirrels, like your roof a whole lot. Their excrement, food refuse, nests, and more could be clogging your gutters or getting baked onto the surface of your roof.

Aging

If your home is older than 50 years, you need a roof inspection more than anyone. This way, you can start planning for repairs or replacement well before it becomes absolutely necessary. As you know, new roofs cost thousands, and this isn’t an expense you want to be forced into paying on the spot.

By taking the initiative and calling a professional roof inspector, you’ll always avoid surprise leaks and failures that characterize many expensive home emergencies. In the long run, you’ll save money, keep warranties active, and feel safer than ever at home.
